Spontaneous Poetry?

Often, when I'm writing or journaling, lines of poetry bubble up and exit through my fingers to the keyboard. Ever happen to you? Similar to my post the other day, I long ago decided not to fight it but allow the poem to flow on out of me. Most of them I don't remember, and if pressed, I don't know that I could easily locate them.

I decided I would begin to place these 'flash poems' on Hub Pages for a number of reasons. If a poem comes unbidden like that, I think it at least deserves a glimmer of light in the real (virtual) world. Another reason is that maybe the content will serve to relate to someone out there. Then there's my reticence to read aloud or present 'new' work. Yes, the poetry is a bit unedited, but sometimes the pure words straight from the keys possess more impact than the polished poem rehashed for weeks or months (or years).

I hope some of this post makes at least a bit of sense to someone. Today, while keying in my journal, this poem appeared as a paragraph. I broke it out into a structure that looked more poetic and I am now posting it. Titling a poem on the fly like this is a bit sticky. Any more eloquent suggestions are appreciated...

Unanswered Question

Fleeting, the moments we own to capture the heart of another.

Defenses rise and confidence fails, the window closes all too quickly.

Vulnerability and pain kiss like lovers in the rain.

Blue moods flow off their bodies into the world,

Viewed only as another river of grief,

Soon forgotten to the streams of life.

Whispers of love,

Seeds that grow from the gentle warmth of their union,

Grow and blossom and meld into a newborn life of vitality and renewal.

Love born in sadness and despair - will they really grow into a flower of destiny, or

Shall love be relegated to a weed of the wind,

Withered, forlorn and destitute until its ultimate demise?

"Unbidden from the mind" is in between somehow the created poem and the muse provided poem such as was one of my experiences (the muse) and the attempts (the created ones.) One of my college professors (Tagliabue at Bates College) made the comment that he knew I had "enjoyed" creating a poem I had written for his class. He was right. "Crafting" is the nature of the created ones. "Startled and astonished" was the one from the muse, for by contrast it was not of my doing. I will be checking your website for more inspiration/perspiration.

Michael! So glad you are on my facebook now! A little reminder to look at your newest hub! I love this poem.....the line..."Blue moods flow off their bodies into the world" is beautiful and brought a few visions to mind along with your words. I envisioned two lovers in an embrace and in a sci-fi way they slowly start turning shades of blue as the love dwindles and dies....As you say "relegated to a weed of the wind." Blue moods are the end of a relationship! That is why poetry rocks! Some people say "they don't get it" and what they do not understand is that a poet can create a "vision" that can then inspire another person or scenario....

Everyone can create their own "story" from a poem....always different ways to write about love....."will they really grow into a flower of destiny?" Not so sure but if things go "South" there is a lot more to write about!!! ha ha .....Ahhhh I love "tragic love stories and poems!!" Best, G

Hey G! Your comments are even great writing! lol! I'm sure I don't have to tell you how incredible the feeling rumbles throughout my soul when someone reads and 'gets' what I've written and takes the time to comment AND point out aspects that touched them. I thank you most assuredly from my heart for your observations and your positivity. I noted today that you are a huge Bradbury fan like myself. Did you ever read When Elephants Last in the Dooryard Bloomed? I haven't read it since Junior High. Thank you for stopping by!

I wish this poem wasn't so true. Your opening line was very poignant and thought provoking. The moments we have ARE fleeting, and one misstep can quickly close the door. At first I was confused by "love born in sadness", but then decided that would be an example of parent-child love where abuse is present. It's a shame that so many of those become a "weed of the wind" instead of a "flower of destiny". A good picture of how powerful love is, and how important it is for us to take care when handling the heart of others.
