I Like It When... Part Two
59
I Like It When...
…Moonbeams tickle snow shadows outside.
…Crystalline shapes mimic real-world existences.
…Hands run my sides and chest, and a hug breaks out around
me.
…Smiles kiss my eyes, warm my heart and comfort my soul.
…Trains echo through mountain valleys with horns blaring
their impending visit.
…Early afternoon shadows tumble from mountains onto
sidewalks and roads.
…Cold autumn air snakes through my lungs and comes out as
white-cloud ghosts on a breeze.
…My hand squirms into hers as we walk the riverbank home.
…The home of my youth welcomes me like I never left.
…Days and nights care for nothing but me and the one I love.
…My eyes drink in her hair, her walk, her quirks and her
playful ways.
…I sit behind my keyboard and watch my life appear before me
in symbols on the screen.
This poem is extremely self explanatory. Simply insert the line, "I like it when" in front of each line of each stanza and you should clearly understand some of the aspects of life which I like. This is the second of two poems on the same theme. In fact, I loved writing both of them so much, I will be writing more like this as the days go by.
I enjoyed penning the two I Like it When ... poems. I love my home state of West Virginia (that's West "By God" Virginia!). Earlier this year I sat and pondered a number of things I love about my home. Then, for no apparent reason, I started thinking of "I like it when..." statements.
I decided the muse kicked up her heels and wanted to dance, so I fell in with her and began scratching on paper fast as my pen would carry me. What came out of this crazed writing session were two stream of consciousness type poems lifting up things like moonbeam doused snow, hugs and smiles.
Placing these initial items into a descriptive element like tickling, and warmth and action like 'break out' added a little pep to the lines. I do enjoy the trains that travel the valley of my youth. I do love their visits to my ears, no matter what time of day or night.
My favorite time of year is autumn. I could write hundreds, even thousand of this type poem just on the topic of autumn. The crisp air and trees baring their branches. Ah, to be back in the land of my youth... one day...
I also grew up two blocks from the Kanawha River. Walking riverbanks with someone you love is not only romantic, it's serene and relaxing and carefree and a thousand other adjectives that can never capture the true essence of the moment. Yet we still strive for that essence, don't we?
Lastly, I wanted to pay homage to the home of my youth, the woman in my life and the ability to write in my heart. These are all things I like when I take the time to consider them.
What do you like when...?
